I have worked in higher education for many years in a variety of contexts and locations, and I am delighted to be teaching this course again. I last taught it in the fall of 2009. Instructor, educational developer, researcher, distance educator, academic administrator and evaluation consultant, I am currently Director of the Centre for Learning Design and Development and Acting Associate Vice President (Learning Resources) at Athabasca University.

I have been designing and developing effective courses and programs and offering faculty development workshops for 16 years, beginning at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. Before that, I worked in university advancement, also at Laurentian, for the National Film Board in Saskatoon, and for the Prime Minister’s Office in Ottawa. I have an Honours BA in English and an MA in Canadian Studies, both from Carleton University. My doctoral studies in Educational Technology at Concordia in Montreal led to a couple of years teaching in the same program. I taught Distance Education, Human Performance Technology, Formative Evaluation, Print-based Instruction and others. Later, at McGill, my work focused on ensuring the appropriate integration of technologies for teaching and learning through collaborative, multi-perspective and systemic planning, implementation and evaluation processes, and through faculty development.

At Athabasca this year, I'm working with colleagues on new course development policy and procedures for effective teaching and learning online.
