A productive partnership with the Alberta Distance Learning Centre has generated an innovative series of professional learning modules designed for practicing teachers. BOLT provides a foundation in the theory, research, and practice of technology-supported learning and may be a bridge into graduate level studies.
BOLT supports a professional learning network through the BOLT Multi-Authored Blog, which offers an online space for educators to exchange ideas about technology in education.
In collaboration with the Aspen View School Division, the CDE is developing ways to support leadership and practice in inclusion. The first project in this productive partnership was the development of MDDE 631: Inclusive Leadership and Practice in Education, a graduate course that addresses the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to deal successfully with student diversity.
This course inspired the next collaborative project with the CDE and Aspen View: The Inclusive Educator’s Toolbox. This innovative site is currently under development and will be a shared collection of member-created ideas, activities, and tools to support inclusion in education.
In partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning, CDE faculty Dr. Marti Cleveland-Innes and Dr. Nathaniel Ostashewski leads this ground-breaking massive open online course (MOOC). This five-week MOOC is intended to engage teachers who work in any level of education, are from all over the globe, and are interested in technology-enabled learning and open educational resources.
The first offering of this course took place in early 2017, and boasts over 1100 registrants from more than twenty-five countries across five continents. Preliminary findings indicate a high level of participant satisfaction with the course, its materials, and its activities, along with an expectation by most respondents that TEL-MOOC will have a positive impact on their teaching practice.
In response to the ongoing financial crisis in Greece, the CDE has partnered with the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Institute of Technology to support and develop expertise in online and distance education. As a result of this fruitful partnership, our MEd (DE) is now fully accredited in Greece. This cohort-based MEd provides students with a unique combination of the flexibility of online learning and the support of an active learning community.
